japanese snacks haul & review ~

i'm going to sound pretty fat as i say this, but lately i've been on a quest to eat some japanese snacks. i don't know why, i just got a craving! maybe it's because i won't be living in california anymore, and moving out to the midwest where it's much harder to get these unique goods... so whenever i've gone out i've made it a mission to stop by some japanese markets. well a few days ago my family and i went out shopping, and the first place we stopped was at a big mitsuwa! here are some of the delicious snacks i grabbed!

i saw this adorable doraemin dorayaki pancake because it was on a manager's sale for $1.90!  dorayaki is, obviously, a type of pancake and it usually has a sweet red bean paste in it.

so cute! i didn't want to ruin it haha. i wish there was more than just 3 in the package because it is so yummy! it was soft, fluffy, and melted in your mouth. the red bean paste was just right- not too bitter and not too sweet. i think this would pair well with milk~

next up are these adorable kitty paw gummies!! i've seen these floating around on tumblr so i had to have them when i saw it. it's so cute :3 it's squishy and juicy, i think it this particular packet is peach flavor. i could eat like 30 of these bags! they're so addicting! i'll definitely repurchase, i just wish there was more in the bag as it is a very small bag.

i guess japan just has crazy flavors for every chip brand now. i saw this bag of cheetos and went bought it on impulse. i'm guessing it is bbq corn flavor? to me i didn't really taste the bbq, it was kind of a weird flavor, like i couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it tastes okay. it's pretty salty... i wouldn't repurchase.

these are some other corn flavored chips, though im not sure what the brand is. it's not cheetos... to be honest, i liked these better than the cheeto brand! it's not as odd, it's more like corn and it has a better taste, i think because it's a little bit more understated.  to be honest, i didn't like either of the corn ones very much, so i wouldn't buy this one again either lol.

i thought this flavor looked pretty unique. it was recommended by the staff of mitsuwa. "japanese meets mexico flavor!!" it said.  it has the traditional ume plum and "ahji" cheese...? i really like eating tortilla chips by themselves so i thought this would be good...oh god, the flavor is STRONG! i love plum flavored stuff, i even liked the (next) plum chips a lot, but this one was just...weird. not particularly bad, but odd. i couldn't "snack" on this, becuase it has a very strong tang when you first bite into it and then as you keep eating it, the cheese flavor comes out more, and i don't know, it's very, very weird, bordering on unpleasant. i definitely don't think i'd purchase this one again.

so this is my favorite chip of the lot! soooo good! (lol, sorry i opened the bag OTL i was eating it and it occurred to me that i forgot to take a close up pic) these are, i believe, umeboshi potato chips. umeboshi are pickled plums! i noticed a lot of japanese snacks and food has the plum flavor and while it is different, i find that it usually tastes amazing! these chips are soooo good. i ate the whole thing in one sitting. they're crunchy, salty, tangy, sweet, yet not too sour. if you want to dip your toe into the world of plum flavored japanese snacks, i highly reccomend this chip to start with!

so i think that'll be it for a while in terms of my japanese snack bingeing haha. i'm all snacked out. do you have any favorite japanese snacks or treats? let me know in the comments! see you next post~
